Passport Photos
Compliant passport photos, taken wherever you are — by appointment.
Skip the drugstore line. Book an appointment and I'll come to your home or business with everything needed for a passport photo that meets U.S. State Department requirements — and retake it as many times as it takes to get it right. Based in Richmond, serving families and businesses across Northern Illinois and Southeast Wisconsin.
Passport photos get rejected for small things: a shadow on the background, a head that's a little too big or too small in the frame, glare on glasses, a smile that's too wide. I check every photo against the requirements before I leave, so you know it's right. The same day, I print and cut two 2×2 copies and mail them to you, and send the digital file by email or text. Already have a good photo? I can turn it into a compliant one — background removed, sized, and cropped — and print it for you.

Before your photo
How to get a photo that passes the first time
What to wear
- Wear an everyday shirt or top in a darker color like blue, black, or gray — white and light colors blend into the white background.
- No uniforms or camouflage.
- Take off hats and large jewelry. Head coverings worn daily for religious or medical reasons are fine with a signed statement, as long as they don't shadow your face.
- No glasses, sunglasses, or tinted lenses, unless you have a signed doctor's note.
Your hair
- Up or down, curly or straight — just keep it off your eyes, eyebrows, and the edges of your face.
- Bangs are fine if your eyes and eyebrows show. Pin longer bangs back with a small bobby pin.
- No big headbands, bows, clips, or scarves. Thin hair ties and plain bobby pins are fine.
- A low ponytail, bun, or braid is the easiest way to keep hair out of your face.
- Tuck your hair behind your ears. It's the simplest way to keep your face fully visible and one of the best ways to avoid a rejection.
Common questions
How much do at-home passport photos cost?
Home or business visit: 1 compliant passport photo, 2 printed & cut copies + digital file: $135; each additional person, same visit (same package): +$30; infants, each (extra time and care): +$20; your own photo made compliant (background removal, sizing) + 1 printed & cut pair, depending on the background: $20–$40; each additional printed & cut pair, any service: +$1; application filled out and printed — first-time (ds-11) or renewal by mail (ds-82) — delivered with your photos: +$55; usps mail delivery (3–4 business days): free; same-day hand delivery: quoted per project. The visit includes one compliant passport photo with unlimited retakes, two printed and cut copies, and the digital file; each additional person on the same visit gets the same.
Can you take passport photos of babies and infants?
Yes — and doing it at home, where your baby is comfortable, makes it much easier. Infant photos are an extra $20 each — so a home visit just for a baby's photo is $155 — since they take more time and care to get a compliant shot: eyes open, facing the camera, against a plain background, with no hands or toys in the frame.
How do I book a passport photo appointment?
Passport photos are by appointment. Send a request through the quote form or call (312) 866-2762, and we'll pick a time that works for you — at your home or business. Let me know how many people need photos and whether anyone is an infant or needs their application filled out.
What makes a passport photo compliant?
U.S. passport photos must be 2×2 inches, in color, taken within the last six months, against a plain white or off-white background, with your head sized correctly in the frame, a neutral expression or natural smile, and no glasses. I check each photo against the State Department's requirements before it's printed.
What should I wear for my passport photo?
Wear an everyday shirt in a color that isn't white or very light — blue, black, or gray work best — and no uniform or camouflage. Take off hats, large jewelry, and glasses (glasses only with a signed doctor's note; daily religious or medical head coverings need a signed statement). Keep your hair off your eyes, eyebrows, and the edges of your face: a low ponytail, bun, or braid is easiest, small bobby pins are fine, and big headbands or bows aren't.
What if the first photo isn't right?
I retake it — as many times as it takes, at no extra charge, until the photo meets the requirements.
Can you use a photo I already took?
Often, yes. Send me the photo and I'll remove the background, size and crop it to passport standards, and print and cut a pair for you — the printed pair is included. It's a flat price that depends on how much background removal the photo needs. If it can't be made compliant — for example, because of shadows or the wrong head angle — I'll let you know before any work is done.
Do you come to businesses and offices?
Yes — I can set up at your business for one person or a whole team, which saves everyone a trip.
Can you fill out my passport application?
Yes — for first-time applicants and for renewals by mail, it's $55. I'll fill out the right form with you, print it, and send it along with your printed photos by the delivery method you choose. First-time applications (Form DS-11) have to be turned in in person at a passport acceptance facility, like many post offices: bring the form with your ID and proof of citizenship, and don't sign it ahead of time — you'll sign it in front of the acceptance agent. Renewals by mail (Form DS-82) are for most adults whose last passport is undamaged and was issued within the past 15 years when they were 16 or older: you sign the form yourself and mail it with your most recent passport, the new photo, and the fee.
Can I get more than two printed copies?
Yes. Every service includes one printed and cut pair, and each additional pair is just $1 — handy if you're applying for more than one document or want spares.
When will I get my passport photos?
Your digital file is sent the same day by email, text message, or both. Your two printed and cut copies are printed off-site the same day the photos are taken and mailed right after printing — USPS delivery is free and usually takes 3–4 business days. Need them sooner? Same-day hand delivery can be arranged and is quoted separately.
